On this site you will find a selection of faces from the past. The black and white photographs were mostly taken before 1925, and they show people from various branches of Edwina's family tree.

Edwina's research is ongoing... and looks as if it will never end. Members of the extended family are very welcome to apply for a login, so that they can view the full family tree, which will eventually be available on this site. (This development might take a while!)

In the meantime, the site will try to keep up-to-date with the state of research so far. I shall post interesting snippets of information  as I find them, and I shall add longer articles or more photos when I have time.

The picture on this page is of George (alias Toby) PHILPOTT. Click the 'PHILPOTT' button on the 'SURNAMES' menu, and then browse around the articles to find out more about his photograph. George has been tricky to research, but I have recently managed to find two possible-looking christenings in the Canterbury area in 1830, one of which might be his.

Read the articles about William HARLING in the 'PHILPOTT' section. George's wife's brother was the closest we have so far to a skeleton in the family cupboard!

Some ancestors, such as Henry CHURCH (see 'CHURCH' section) and Caroline Emily BUTLER (see 'PHILPOTT' section) are proving very hard to research. Any members of the public who happen to sight either of these individuals - please let us know!

Joan LEONARD

It was sad to hear of the passing of Joan Leonard (1921 - 2009), known to me as Auntie Joan, and to my father as Cousin Joanie. Joan was a great-granddaughter of George PHILPOTT, the labourer whose photo features on the website Home Page. She kindly contributed some reminiscences to my family history research. My branch of the family had not kept up to date with Joan in the last years, but my sisters and I have fond memories of Auntie Joan, as she was very good to us when we were children, and always remembered us at Christmas time.

All our good wishes go to Colin and his family.
